The Northbrook District 28 Children's Choir was founded in 2019 by District 28 music teacher Jeremy Bartunek. It currently includes over 175 first through fifth grader students from all three elementary schools in District 28.

The mission of the NB28CC is to allow children to experience the joy of choral singing in a positive, musically nurturing environment. Choir members learn fundamental techniques of singing, including: posture, air, shape, tone, and articulation. Additionally, solfege, sight-singing, reading musical notation, musical interpretation, concentration, and concert protocol are emphasized throughout the rehearsal process.

There are no auditions for the Northbrook 28 Children's Choir, and all rehearsals take place after school for 60-90 minutes.

The choir is divided as follows:

Monday, 3:30-4:30 - 1st/2nd grade

Tuesday, 3:30-5:00 - 4th/5th grade "Something More" - This group is designed for kids who want a robust, intense choir experience. We perform at least one time per month in the community, and the expectation is that the kids who are involved in Something More attend every rehearsal and performance. To be clear, this choir is their primary commitment.

Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 - 3rd-5th grade

Thursday, 3:30-4:30 - 3rd-5th grade

The Wed/Thr groups learn different songs from each other, but they are both at the same "difficulty" level. We offer a basic 3rd-5th grade choir on two days of the week, and families can choose which one works best for them. Additionally, the kids can switch between the ensembles after our concerts depending on family schedules.

If you are interested in signing your child up for choir, please contact Mr. Bartunek at jbartunek@northbrook28.net
